There are actors and then there is Aamir Khan! While the former lot believes in following the trends by wearing and sporting what’s in vogue, the latter ‘decides’ what’s in vogue and what’s not! A fantastic actor and a hardcore trendsetter – that’s Aamir Khan for you. Shah Rukh may be known as the King Khan but Aamir is royalty as far as his attitude is concerned! This superstar lives by his rules and only addresses the media as and when he wishes to!

However, we managed to accomplish an almost impossible task the other day! We actually managed to spend few minutes with this actor par excellence (away from his screaming fans and photographers!) when he turned up for the premiere of Race at a suburban Mumbai multiplex.

Following the ‘formal’ dress code for the evening (unlike Dhoni who was at his casual best), Aamir looked absolutely delectable in his suit and tie look! The actor was even mistaken for ‘Salman’ post his arrival, all thanks to his newly acquired muscles and toned body! As soon as he got seated with wife Kiran to watch the film, we RACE-d towards him and finally managed to speak to him!

Months after the release of OM SHANTI OM and WELCOME, a film has managed to take a stupendous opening at the box office. RACE, the film that Bollywood was looking forward to after a relative lean 2008 (that only had JODHAA AKBAR making a mark), has got audience back into the theaters.

The film has worked all over, whether A, B or C centers, and is drawing all segments of audience with family crowds as well as student community thronging the theaters. In addition, RACE has turned out to be one of those few films, which has broken single screens v/s multiplex audience and taken an exceptional opening all over.

The way things stand today, this Abbas-Mustan directed film is all set to break the 30 crore barrier when it comes to first week’s collections. If it does so (which looks quite positive as of now), RACE would only be the fourth film to do so after OM SHANTI OM (40 crores), WELCOME (35 crores) and DHOOM 2 (35 crores)!

Abbas-Mustan are certainly back in the ‘race’!

Either Om Shanti Om girl Deepika Padukone was really unperturbed or she simply put up a brave front when a section of the media asked her about her feelings on being put up in a less luxurious hotel (Grand Sukhumvit) than Akshay Kumar (Four Seasons) while shooting for Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk to China. She had said, "I am not upset. As far as I know, I am in a five-star hotel and it’s the same hotel that Nikhil, the producers and the rest of the crew are also staying in. I am very comfortable and happy. I am being well taken care of." Reportedly, the rates of Four Seasons are double of that of Grand Sukhumvit.

But all that is past. Now, Prakash Padukone’s daughter is in fact smiling from ear to ear.

Reason? Her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor is with her in Bangkok. Ranbir flew in by Thai Airways on Friday night to spend quality time with her.

As soon as Ranbir landed, Deepika checked out from Grand Sukhumvit. Our source says, "She is now staying in the same hotel where Ranbir has put up. Currently, both are staying in Hotel Shangrila."

There is a chunky slice of audience that waits for a film starring Om Puri. In an era ruled over by smashing heroes from Jeetendra to Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna, it was really an uphill climb for Om Puri to establish himself.

The actor was recently in Kolkata in connection with the city premiere of his English film Lovesongs, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow directed by Jayabrato Chatterjee. TWF correspondent Shoma A. Chatterjee managed to corner him for a few questions

The story goes that you have not taken a single paisa for your role in this film. Is this true?

It is true. But this is nothing new. I quote my price depending on the project, the banner, the script and the film, though not necessarily in that order.

I try my best to choose good roles, preferably a little offbeat, not very commercial and I quote my rate accordingly. I am saddened by the fact that such films are hardly being made today.

So, when a project like Lovesongs comes, I am ready to help out the only way I can – by taking it up and by compromising on my fee depending on how significant the film and the filmmaker are.
